There are times when your roof simply needs attention. It doesn’t matter if it’s for maintenance, repairs, or even a full on roof replacement. There will come a time that you will simply need a roofing company to come and take a look at your roof. If you have only recently moved to the area and you don’t really know any reliable roofing services in your area, how do you know who to hire?
Hiring a credible roofing contractor doesn’t have to be an ordeal. Here are a few tips that can help you to discern whether the roofer you want to hire is credible.
Compile A List
As you begin your search for reliable roofing services, the first thing you should do is make a list. Do a cursory search of roofing contractors in your area and make a list of about 10 of them. From this list, start taking a look at each one.
It will basically become a process of elimination from here. From this list of 10, try to get it down to about three candidates. It may seem like a daunting task to narrow that list of roofing companies down to three; however, it really does become simple if you follow the next step.
Look at Reviews and Ratings
The best way for you to tell if a roofing company is worth your time or not is by looking at their online presence. Be wary of companies that do not have an online presence at all, as they may either be new or not credible.
Roofing services often get rated on their social media pages, on Yelp, and on various other forums and websites. It is also a good idea to confirm a company's BBB rating, if they have one.
Look at how many reviews that roofing contractor has, how many are positive and how many are negative. Be sure to take a deeper look at why they were rated negatively because sometimes it may not be the company’s fault that a customer was particularly finicky.
Eliminate roofing companies that have many suspiciously great ratings from unconfirmed customers. Eliminate companies that have no reviews at all.
Ask For Estimates
Once you have narrowed your list down to about three, now is the time to ask those three roofing services for inspections and estimates. A credible and trustworthy roofing contractor will not hesitate to set an appointment to come look at your roof and give you a complete estimate.
Take note that a reliable roofing company won't ask you to sign a contract without having reviewed your insurance company's estimate. They should not demand a deposit or even full payment for work that has not been done.
Once you have your estimates, you can then compare the estimates and make a final decision on which roofing contractor to hire. Do your homework and you should be able to find roofing services that are local, well established, and credible. From there, it just becomes a matter of deciding which roofing company you want to work with!
